Senger Naturwelt
A stuffed animal that you warm up first and then take under the covers with you: that is the idea that Senger Naturwelt has revolved around for forty years. In 1985, Volker and Sabine Senger started out in the German town of Obersinn, in his mother's defunct clothing factory, making handmade mouse dolls inspired by The Wind in the Willows. Each animal was given its own character right from the start, and that has never changed. Volker describes his stuffed animals as friends for good days and bad, for children and adults alike.
Warm or cool, thanks to the pillow in the tummy
What makes a Senger special is hidden under the zipper in the tummy: a removable pillow filled with organic spelt husks or cherry pits. Warm it up for a moment and you have a warming plush toy for cold evenings, stomach aches, or a difficult night. Put that same pillow in the fridge and the animal becomes cooling, which is handy for a bump or on a scorching day. The long arms and legs and the slightly weighted bodies do the rest: they simply beg to be held.
Wool from the Eifel, spelt from the Swabian Jura
Senger makes everything by hand in Germany and prefers to source raw materials from nearby: new sheep's wool from roaming herds in the Eifel, spelt from the Swabian Jura, and cherry pits from the Ore Mountains. The plush is made of organic cotton; the white plush is neither dyed nor bleached. Sheep's wool naturally regulates temperature, absorbs moisture, and retains the child's familiar scent. Handcrafting also means that no two animals are exactly identical, and that you are bringing home one that will last for years.
A whole menagerie to choose from
Geese, ducks, rabbits, deer, whales, seals, and elephants: it is quite busy at Senger. The small animals fit perfectly in baby hands, the large stuffed animals are beloved by older siblings, and the well-known plush goose is just as often used by adults as a travel pillow or support while nursing.
