The calf stands curiously upright, ready to jump after its mother. Place it with the doe and the stag, and the deer family is complete. This deer family was designed by Stephan Zech, who took over the design of the figures from Margarete Ostheimer in 1995.

Each figure is handmade in Germany, using wood from sustainable domestic forestry. Each wooden animal from the Ostheimer collection is a unique piece made with much love and care. The water-based paints are slightly transparent to emphasize the wood grain; the play figures are not finished with varnish to keep the beauty of the wood visible. The unpainted figures are oiled with vegetable oil from organic farming.
