Children are born helpers. Slide a stool up to the kitchen counter and they’re already there, ready to stir, taste, and above all, cut by themselves. In our shop, we were increasingly asked for a child’s knife for little chefs. That search led us to SKÅGFÄ, a Spanish brand with Swedish roots that designs kitchenware for cooking together. The KLYV First Knife Lime (lime green) is their first child’s knife and immediately their most awarded: it won the iF DESIGN AWARD 2024, the gold Innovation Award at the Junior Design Awards 2024, and a silver A' Design Award in 2025.

What makes this toddler knife different from an ordinary knife is its shape. Small children do not yet have the strength and coordination to saw, so they simply push down, often using both hands at once. The wedge-shaped stainless steel blade is designed precisely for this: not sharp enough to cut, but strong enough to slice through banana, strawberry, kiwi, avocado, cucumber, or steamed carrot. This way, your little one develops fine motor skills and coordination without even realizing it, and their confidence grows with every piece of fruit they cut themselves. Anyone familiar with Montessori will recognize the idea: real tasks with real tools sized for children.

Let’s be honest: this is not a toy but real kitchenware, so always cook together and show them exactly where their fingers belong.
