Why do we like this?
The Hectix is constructed from hexagonal wooden rods that interlock and clamp together. The result looks like a small sculpture until you notice there's one rod somewhere that holds the whole thing together.
The idea originated with Bill Cutler around 1965 and was independently conceived by Stewart T. Coffin in 1968. Coffin is considered in puzzle circles to be the world's most important designer of interlocking puzzles, so this is no ordinary wooden block.
Eureka makes it in fine wood: red padauk, black walnut, and white maple. The packaging states what is known about the design's origin, and those who get stuck can request the solution using the barcode on their box.
