In the Middle Ages, a knight could own up to four different types of horses, each with a specific purpose. At tournaments, the knight was accompanied by a warhorse. This horse had stamina, was robust, and could carry the weight of its rider and 50 kg of equipment for hours. It was also trained to withstand the noise of battle.
