Why you should buy your Micro scooter at In den Olifant
In den Olifant is a family business in the heart of Antwerp, and we've been surrounded by toys since 1970. We've been happily selling Micro scooters for years, and because of this, we know the difference between a Mini, a Maxi, a Sprite, a Cruiser, and the Eco-line inside and out. Are you unsure which size or model suits your child best? Feel free to drop by the store or send us a message; we'd be happy to help you think it through and together choose the scooter that truly fits your needs.
What truly convinces us about Micro is that you're buying a scooter for life. It comes with a two-year warranty, all parts remain available for at least ten years, and the lean-to-steer system was developed in collaboration with Swiss medical experts with children's motor skills in mind. This means the same scooter often goes from one child to the next, and we think that's what really makes beautiful toys.
A beautiful brand with a rich history
Micro Mobility has a rich history and a clear philosophy that scoots along with every child, dating back to its founding in Switzerland in the 1990s. Micro Mobility's story began when the inventor of the Micro Scooter - Wim Ouboter, a Swiss man of Dutch origin - wanted to develop a means of transport for covering "micro" distances. His goal was to offer simple, practical, and sustainable mobility solutions for people in urban environments. Something that naturally appeals to In den Olifant as a toy store in the city centre of Antwerp.
In 1996, Micro designed the very first foldable aluminium scooter with small skateboard wheels. A significant milestone in Micro Mobility's history. This invention changed the way people, and also many children, move around and laid the foundation for the company's success. Since then, Micro Mobility has developed a wide range of products, all with the same focus on quality, functionality, and durability. Pure Swiss design and excellent quality.
The result is designs and products that make daily life easier, while simultaneously having a positive impact on the environment, our planet, and the future. This is reflected in the quality, innovation, and every design. A beautiful addition to In den Olifant's toy collection and wonderful for children to explore the world.
“Light hearts make for swift travels. Kids have that. Adults should cherish it.
Movement is freedom. And freedom is fun!”
Every Micro scooter is built to last
At Micro Mobility, sustainability and quality are paramount. Every scooter, from the Mini Micro to a Micro Cruiser for adults, is designed with the philosophy built to last. A great riding experience and quality components form the basis of every scooter. They only choose carefully selected high-quality materials and it's good to know that they subject their products to strict quality controls to ensure they meet national and international safety standards. This ensures that Micro scooters can withstand years of intensive use and you can be sure that you are choosing quality that will last.
But what's truly special about Micro scooters is that the brand has also thought about repair and maintenance. Should anything ever go wrong, all parts will be available for at least 10 years. This means you can perform simple repairs yourself, without having to replace the entire scooter. This is unique in the industry and once again creates a very sustainable story.
Everyone is a fan of those fantastic LED wheels
Scootering is one thing. But the accessories and features of Micro scooters are what make many children's eyes light up. Almost literally. Because in our Micro Mobility collection, you'll find a whole range of scooters with lights in the wheels. The LED lights in the wheels of Micro Scooters add a striking and fun element to the scooter, while also providing extra visibility and safety in low light. These bright lights activate when the wheels turn, creating a striking light effect and requiring no batteries. Sounds like music to every parent's ears, doesn't it?
The LED lights in Micro Scooter wheels don't need batteries because they are powered by the rotation of the wheels themselves. This makes them extremely convenient and maintenance-free. There are also special LED moon wheels with an extra row of lights in the wheels, causing them to light up even more when in use. Additionally, you can also buy a set of wheels with lights separately and mount them on your scooter if you don't already have them.
A scooter that grows with you thanks to the continuously adjustable handlebar
Scoot safely with your Micro scooter by adjusting it to your own height, or by letting your child's scooter grow with them as your toddler gets taller. Micro scooters have continuously height-adjustable handlebars. This means you can set the handlebar to any desired height within a certain range. The handlebar can be slid up or down and locked at the desired height.
This system offers a high degree of flexibility, making it suitable for a wide range of users. Most other scooter manufacturers work with handlebars that are designed with often 3 fixed positions, so you don't have this with Micro Mobility :-)
Steering with your weight, it's like surfing on the streets
Another recognizable feature of Micro are their 3-wheeled scooters with the lean-to-steer system, also known as the "tilt-and-steer" mechanism. Parents often find this strange, but children often take to it immediately and love it. Instead of the traditional handlebar that you turn with your hands, this system uses the rider's lean to steer the scooter. Micro invented this mechanism in collaboration with Swiss medical experts. It is designed to promote children's gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, core strength, spatial awareness, muscle coordination, self-confidence, and independence, and has been reviewed and approved by a biomechanics expert.
What are the basic principles of the lean-to-steer mechanism?
- Leaning left or right: When the rider leans to the left, the handlebar tilts to the left and steers the scooter to the left. The same applies, of course, to leaning to the right.
- Centring: The handlebar returns to its neutral position when the rider is not leaning. This means that if the rider stops leaning, the handlebar automatically returns to an upright position, allowing the scooter to continue riding straight.
- Intuitive: The lean-to-steer system is often more intuitive for children than a traditional handlebar. Instead of learning how to turn the handlebar, they only need to learn how to shift their body to steer the scooter, which feels more natural for many children.
- Stability: This system can also help promote stability while riding. Because the handlebar responds to body movements, the rider can more easily maintain balance, especially when turning.
A collection to be proud of: the Micro ECO line
It's not just about beautiful Swiss design and quality materials. For its eco-line, Micro Mobility focuses on tackling the plastic problem in the oceans through innovative and environmentally friendly initiatives. The deck and brake of the Eco scooters are made from recycled and reused "Green Plastic," sourced from the maritime industry, such as old fishing nets, ropes, and other plastic waste that would otherwise end up in the sea. This approach not only reduces the amount of plastic waste but also shrinks the ecological footprint and promotes a circular economy. In addition, Micro donates 1% of the sales of the ECO line to environmental organizations. The Eco scooters are available in light green, dark green, and black, the colour of the nets.
