Why do we like this?
De Hectix is opgebouwd uit zeshoekige houten staafjes die elkaar kruisen en vastklemmen. Het resultaat oogt als een kleine sculptuur, tot je merkt dat er ergens één staafje zit dat de hele boel bij elkaar houdt.
Het idee komt van Bill Cutler, rond 1965, en werd los daarvan opnieuw bedacht door Stewart T. Coffin in 1968. Coffin geldt in puzzelkringen als de belangrijkste ontwerper van in elkaar grijpende puzzels ter wereld, dus dit is geen doorsnee houten blokje.
Eureka maakt hem in edelhout: rood padoek, zwart walnoot en wit esdoorn. Op de verpakking staat wat er geweten is over de herkomst van het ontwerp, en wie vastloopt vraagt de oplossing op met de barcode van zijn doosje.
